Aljezur is a town of two halves, with the old town being on one side of the river and the new town on the other. In the old town the remains of a beautiful 10th century Moorish castle is well worth a visit. On the other side in the new town is the 18th century church, Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Alva, situated in the town square surrounded by cafes. This historic town has many restaurants to choose from, and a great fresh food market held every Saturday.
Praia da Arrifana
Surrounded by beautiful cliff tops this beach has a popular beach break with peaks that work throughout the tides. The beach also has a right point break on the north side in front of the harbour. Built into the cliff tops, Restaurante Da Praia is a great place to eat with fantastic views of the surf. They offer amazing fresh food and icy cold beers.
Praia do Monte Clérigo
This unspoilt surfing beach can work at any time of the year. Depending on the conditions it can offer a powerful and punchy beach break. The ideal swell direction is from the northwest with an easterly wind. Clerigo is a great alternative when Arrifana is tiny. Restaurante O Ze serves up good fresh fish and is an ideal place to watch the sun go down.
Praia de Amoreira
The neighbouring beach to Monte Clerigo, Amoreira has a wide expanse of golden sand backed by deep sand dunes. The mouth of the Ribeira Aljezur is situated on the south end of the beach and it creates different banks and breaks from Monte Clerigo. Restaurant Paraiso do Mar has a large wooden terrace overlooking the beach and specializes in fresh fish. It’s a really nice place to get a coffee or an ice cream after a surf.
